What causes the skin to age?
For many people, looking young is as important a factor in feeling good about themselves, as a healthy smile. However, age is an unstoppable process and as we get older our skin loses its natural elasticity and wrinkles develop.
With increasing age, the hyaluronic acid content of our skin decreases. Oil-producing glands become less active, and skin becomes drier. The skin also loses fat so it looks less plump and smooth and its youthful colour and glow fades. Wrinkles and lines are not only caused by the ageing process, but also by everyday exposure to sun, stress or smoking.
There are two major types of lines that develop in the ageing face:
- Dynamic lines – due to muscle activity
- Static lines – due to volume loss
Queensway’s Anti-ageing Treatments
Botulinum toxin type A – or botox
Botox is made by Allergan and has been used in patients to manage various conditions for over 10 years in the UK and for well over 15 years globally.
It relaxes selected muscles that pull on the skin, causing lines and wrinkles. As the muscles relax the lines will soften or even disappear completely.
It takes two weeks for botox to be fully effective, but you will notice the first changes after four to five days.
The effects of botox last three to six months depending on your response, but repeat treatments have been shown to last for longer.
Dermal Fillers
Designed to plump up static wrinkles and lines in your skin, softening them and giving a more smooth and youthful look.
The two products we use here at Queensway are made from hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally produced in the skin that is essential for keeping it looking plump, smooth and youthful:
- JUVÉDERM® is a filler made by Allergan and is a smooth consistency gel which is injected to restore volume, fill lines, wrinkles and folds and redefine lips. Unlike other fillers, JUVÉDERM® is not granular which means that it is able to flow easily into the skin, giving a smooth, natural appearance.
- BELOTERO® is a dermal filler made by Merz and is especially good for fine lines. The effect is instant, natural and subtle.
These products are not permanent but the benefit can last for anything up to a year, depending on skin quality, quantity of product placed and general health and lifestyle.
Numbing injection
To make treatment more comfortable we can offer numbing cream and numbing injections which can be discussed in the initial free consultation. All patients will also receive a complimentary pot of auriderm cream to aid the healing process and help prevent bruising.
After treatment you will also be offered a complementry review appointment with Rebecca.
