Crowns and Bridges

Crowns
A crown(or cap) is fitted to strengthen a tooth, if a tooth has been broken, or weakened by a lot of decay or a large filling. Crowns are shaped like natural teeth. For teeth near the front of the mouth crowns are made of porcelain (similar to veneers). Crowns on back teeth may be made of porcelain or gold. Your dentist shapes and reduces the tooth so that there is room for the new crown. A mould is taken and sent to the laboratory. A temporary crown is fitted until your fit appointment. At the fit appointment, your dentist will take off the temporary crown and cement the permanent crown in place.

Inlays/Onlays
Inlays and onlays are similar to fillings. However, like crowns, they are made in a laboratory and then bonded to the tooth with special adhesive. This process, like crowns and veneers requires more than one  visit to the dentist. Inlays and onlays are very strong and, in some circumstances, may be more durable than ordinary fillings. They are suitable for the grinding surfaces of the molar teeth and can be made out of gold, porcelain or composite material.

Dental Bridges
When a tooth is missing or lost leaving a gap, a bridge can be placed using crowns on the teeth next to the gap to hold a false tooth in place. At Queensway Dental Practice we use only the highest quality dental materials to fabricate well fitting dental bridges. Our dentists work closely with our dental technician at every stage of fabrication of a bridge to help achieve natural-looking, functional teeth that are often cosmetically indistinguishable from surrounding natural teeth.
