Periodontics

It's not just our teeth we need to look after, it's important to keep our gums in good health too. If you don't, you could suffer from gum disease, known as gingivitis. Fortunately, at Queensway Dental we can treat gum disease and help to prevent it from occurring.

Healthy gums

Here in the UK, approximately 80% of adults suffer from gum disease. It is caused by a bacterial infection and is one of the most common oral health problems to affect the population, second only  to tooth decay. When a tooth bed is infected with bacteria, it becomes inflamed and can degenerate very quickly. If it gets exceptionally bad, teeth can become loose and fall out. Fortunately, gum disease can be avoided, but it relies on you keeping up a regular oral hygiene routine, which includes looking after your gums.

Gum disease doesn't necessary lead to tooth loss and at Queensway Dental we certainly endeavour to do everything we can to avoid that outcome. That is why we have a periodontal team who focus on the early diagnosis and treatment of gum disease.

What is periodontics?

Periodontics is the branch of dentistry which focuses on the prevention and treatment of gum disease. As part of our periodontal services, our experienced team offer gum health screening. This helps us to identify the signs of gum disease early and prepare a treatment programme if need be.

If your gum disease has already progressed, we can use microsurgical techniques to rejuvenate and restore your gums. This is most effective for patients who have suffered unsightly gum loss. In some instances, gum disease can be so severe that the roots of your teeth can become exposed, making them highly sensitive and unattractive. Our microsurgical techniques can resolve this problem.

Signs of gum disease

As part of your regular oral hygiene routine, it's important you keep an eye out for any signs of gum disease and book an appointment with us if you notice any. The most common signs of gum disease are:

  • Red and swollen gums
  • Bleeding when brushing
  • Sensitive or loose teeth
  • Gum deterioration
  • Mouth odour

Treating gum disease

At Queensway Dental, we use the Helbo system, which uses dye and laser light to combat the bacteria which cause gum disease. This is a highly effective treatment and gets better results than traditional periodontal treatment of antibiotics or disinfecting rinsing solution.

If you suffer from gum disease or would like us to check for any signs and symptoms, book a periodontal consultation with our team today.

All-on-4

I chose to go ahead with my treatment for a few reasons, after my initial check-up, the dentist explained everything in detail, what was wrong with my teeth and the options which could be taken to correct them. I was under no pressure, I felt reassured and confident that the work could

be done professionally and on completion I would have my smile back.
