Richard made a decision to treat himself. His decision was either to replace his car or the part-dentures that he had worn since he was 17 to disguise the gaps in his smile.
After hearing an advert on Smooth Radio and reading patient information on the Queensway website, he phoned and booked an appointment to see Dr Paul Averley to find out about the options for dental implants and discuss the problems he was experiencing with his current denture. Richard had been faced with difficulty every time he smiled as the denture would become stuck in his top lip and it was often awkward to smile without his having to physically put the lip back in place.
It was at the initial consultation that Paul and Richard discussed the All-on-4™ dental implant system which would allow Richard to have a full dental bridge placed, supported by only four dental implants. A 3D x-ray was taken which scanned his gums and bone to determine that he was a suitable patient for dental implants.
After his assessment Richard went away with lots of reading material to help him make his decision. After much deliberation as to whether to have a new smile or a new car, he made the decision and a few weeks later he booked in for the first stage of treatment.
On the day of Richard’s surgery, a provisional dental bridge was fitted which looked and felt like natural teeth and was placed on his upper jaw. After a few weeks of healing time the permanent bridge (which had been made on-site specifically for Richard) was fitted. The bridge wasn’t made according to specifications provided by Richard, which is the sense of the sentence as is.
Richard said after his treatment: “The best part for me was being able to enjoy hot crusty rolls again! With wearing a denture I would never have contemplated this, especially when eating out at a restaurant, but now I can eat and smile confidently.”
