Tell us about your career history

Before starting at Queensway, Julie worked for the University Hospital of North Tees for twenty years as a decontamination assistant. She joined Queensway in November 2019.

What do you enjoy most about working at Queensway?

It has a lovely atmosphere and the staff are friendly.

Where would a patient find you?

In the sterilising department.

Most rewarding part of your job?

Knowing how important the sterilising is to the staff and patients, and when I manage to get everything done and put away.

What do you enjoy doing out of work?

I enjoy doing yoga, walking, and generally being outdoors. I also enjoy visiting historical places and I am a member of the National Trust.

What makes you smile?

My dog and spending time with family and friends.

I have worked in retail most of my life. Then the opportunity to work at Queensway came up and I was fortunate enough to be offered the job.

How long have you worked at Queensway?

I have worked at Queensway for just over 3 years.

Where would a patient usually find you in the practice?

I can be found in the main building upstairs in the stera room.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Being part of a large team and having my own role to play.

What do you enjoy doing out of work?

Outside of work I enjoy socialising with friends and spending time with my family.

What makes you smile?

My family make me smile.

Lewis previously worked for Stagecoach depot in Stockton for 10 years as a 'fueller/shunter' and bus driver at their yard. He had heard Queensway was a great place to work and was ready for a change.

How long have you worked at Queensway?

Since March 2019

What do you enjoy most about working at Queensway?

Being part of an awesome team and learning new things.

Where would a patient usually find you in the practice?

When I'm not cleaning instruments in the sterilisation rooms, you will find me walking around the practice delivering the clean trays to surgeries ready for the next patient.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Seeing a clear autoclave with all instruments distributed ready for the day.

What do you enjoy doing out of work?

I have a son called Hugo, a pug called Elvis and 35 budgies to keep me busy when I'm not at work! I also enjoy going to festivals in my VW campervan.

What makes you smile?

Getting a cheeky grin off baby Hugo, when the Boro win a game and waking up somewhere sunny in the campervan.

Julia previously worked as a wedding photographer before changing her career over seven years ago.

How long have you worked at Queensway?

I joined the Queensway team in 2018 as a stera technician and stock controller.

What do you enjoy most about working for Queensway?

No two days are the same. As well as sterilising a huge range or instruments I may need to source specialist products, liaise with engineers and complete a range of tests to ensure items are safe to use. Also I love working with such an amazing team.

Where would a patient usually find you in the practice?

In the central sterilisation and supply department. A room solely for the processing of dental instruments and sterilisation to a very high standard. I can also be found around the practice, collecting and delivering equipment.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Knowing that my job (although I work behind the scenes) is vitally important in keeping patients safe.

What do you enjoy doing out of work?

I love doing yoga, reading Stephen King books, spending time with my daughters; Anna and Stella, going to gigs, vintage clothes fairs and record shops. In my spare time I am also studying Criminal Psychology.

What makes you smile?

Standing on my head in yoga – all the bad thoughts just fall out. Knowing that, as a vegan, my lifestyle doesn’t contribute to animal cruelty. And finally, the Queensway team – every day!

After bringing up my children I worked in Colchester General Hospitals Sterilising unit, then moved to the Microbiology department where I worked as a lab technician for 12 years. I have been working in Queensway since then.

How long have you worked at Queensway?

I have worked at Queensway for nearly 5 years.

Where would a patient usually find you in the practice?

In the sterilizing department of Crown building.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

It feels good when I have managed to get everything cleaned, sterilised and returned to the surgeries and nobody has run out of instruments.

What do you enjoy doing out of work?

I read and sew and I like eating out.
