Smile update | February 2022

After what has felt like a very quick January, we are greeting February with the joy of lighter nights and longer days. We have loved seeing all our patients (new and old) at the beginning of this year and are looking forward to continuing our patients’ oral health journeys throughout this year.

It is positive and uplifting to see the continued relaxation of the COVID-19 restrictions and a steady return towards “normal living”. However, the safety of our patients and staff remains paramount and the national guidance around dental practices and infection control protocols hasn’t changed at the current time. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for continued cooperation with the protocols we have put in place and to remind you that we are still asking patients to wear face coverings when visiting the practice.

We hope you enjoy this month’s newsletter. Please remember our team here are always at hand to answer any questions you may have.

We look forward to seeing you soon, in the meantime, take care and stay safe.

QUEENSWAY Dental Group have filled the gap in funding to save their local football club from the brink of extinction.

Billingham Synthonia faced certain closure, just a year short of its centenary when its main source of income pulled its funding. Following a public appeal, Queensway Dental, Queensway Orthodontics and Queensway Laboratory based in Billingham came together to donate £10,000 and help save the club ahead of its 100-year anniversary.

Founded in 1923, Billingham Synthonia were named after an agricultural fertiliser, Synthonia being a contraction of “synthetic ammonia” – a product manufactured by ICI. They have remained a stalwart in the Northern League ever since.

Queensway Dental Group employs approximately 140 members of staff from partners to dental technicians across its Billingham sites, providing a range of different services, from general dentistry to cosmetic and orthodontic treatment.

Dr Ian Lane (pictured left), partner at Queensway Dental, said: “We have certainly not been immune to the financial impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, but we are passionate about helping our community wherever and whenever we can.

“Billingham Synthonia is a well-respected club at the heart of our community and the prospect of our local team’s 99 years of club history abruptly ending meant a great deal to our team members and patients alike.

“We are delighted to be able to help keep the club alive as it continues its footballing journey. We wish the Synners the best of luck for the coming season and beyond.”

Paul Dolan, chairman at Billingham Synthonia, said “ Billingham Synthonia Football Club are delighted to announce a partnership with Queensway Dental Clinic, Queensway Dental Laboratory and Queensway Orthodontists all based in Billingham for their generous funding to help Synthonia see out the end of the 2021/22 EBAC Northern League football season.

How do you enjoy spending your time outside of work?

I love spending time with my family and spend a lot of my weekends either in the woods or on the beach with my son. Keeping myself fit and active are also important to me; I especially enjoy road cycling and HIIT training. I am a big music fan and play the guitar, but I am also planning to learn to play the piano and drums if I can find time! I love to cook and will usually to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday in the kitchen creating something delicious for the family, but often sneakily with the football on in the background.

What makes you smile?

Work wise – knowing that patients are leaving my surgery confident and happy.

Outside of work – Big hugs from my wife and son when I walk through the door after a day at work and walking on the beach.

Also joining our Billingham practice is experienced dental associate, Dr Lauren Willson.

Lauren completed her foundation training in a practice in Middlesbrough and since then has worked in general practices throughout the North East.

Dr Willson will be supporting our therapy team with the re-care journey of our patients who have joined the Queensway plan.

What do you enjoy doing out of work?

I enjoy reading, baking for my family and taking in the fresh air whilst paddle boarding.

What makes you smile?

My three beautiful children.

If you’re also in the group of people who don’t feel confident showing their teeth in a photo –

we are here to help!
