BILLINGHAM PRACTICE

Dr Michael Davies

After completing a BSc (Hons) in Pharmacology from Newcastle University, I carried on my studies and completed my BChD in Dental Surgery from Leeds Dental Institute in 2015.

Since qualifying I have worked in both NHS and private general practices and worked within the emergency and out-of-hours NHS dental services in West Yorkshire and the North East. I completed a Dental Core Training (DCT) year in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) at Leeds General Infirmary where I developed an interest in the surgical side of dentistry such as surgical extractions and implant dentistry. During my time in the hospital, I became a member of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) and the Collage of General Dentistry (MCGDent) from the Royal college of Surgeons of England. I have also worked as a Clinical Teaching Fellow (CTF) in Restorative Dentistry at Leeds Dental Institute teaching the 3rd and 4th year dental students becoming an associate fellow of the higher education academy (AFHEA). Having studied and worked in the UK, I then moved over to Australia and worked for a year and a half in Brisbane. Working in general practice, teaching at the University of Queensland gaining an academic title of associate lecturer in restorative dentistry and volunteering to work with the Royal Flying Doctors Service (RFDS). Moving back to the UK before the COVID pandemic I worked back for a NHS practice in North Yorkshire and became a COVID Vaccinator before moving to Queensway Dental in March 2022.

I have a keen interested in implant dentistry, oral surgery and dental anxiety control completing post-qualification training in dental implantology and conscious IV dental sedation becoming a member of the society for advancement of anaesthesia in Dentistry (SAAD) and the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI). I try to continuously improve the dental skills by attending courses and seminars on a wide range of topics. I am hoping to start a PG Diploma in Restorative dentistry by the end of this year.

What do you enjoy doing out of work?

Outside of work I enjoy watching and playing football. I am an avid Middlesbrough FC supporter and try to follow them where I can. I enjoy cycling and I am hoping to complete a London to Paris cycle soon. I enjoy meeting up with friends and loved ones for some good quality catch up time.

Within work, taking a patient on their journey whether it being a new smile or conquering their dental anxiety or phobia makes me smile.

What makes you smile?

Outside of work, walks with friends and family with a blue sky always makes me smile and of course a win for the boro.
