Dentures are worn to replace lost or missing teeth, occasionally they can also be fitted over the top of damaged teeth to disguise/hide them. Dentures can help you eat and speak with confidence, restoring your smile, often making you look and feel younger. We offer a number of different types of dentures to help our patients.
A complete or full denture replaces all-natural teeth in either the upper or lower jaws. A partial denture fills in the spaces created by lost or missing teeth. Often the dentures used are acrylic dentures but we offer a number of other options. These can be discussed with your dentist at your free consultation.
Types of Denture
Manufactured on-site at Queensway Dental Laboratory acrylic dentures are made using a high impact acrylic with the latest injection moulded technology to ensure strength and durability.
Cobalt Chrome Dentures
Cobalt chrome dentures are partial dentures used to minimise the amount of space your denture takes up. They often give patients greater comfort and peace of mind as these dentures have been designed to use metal clasps to keep them in place.
Flexible dentures are a comfortable alternative to a cobalt chrome or acrylic denture. These lightweight dentures eliminate the need for metal clasps. Most flexible dentures are fabricated without a metal frame, instead being made from a strong, durable plastic that snaps securely and comfortably into place around existing natural teeth and gums. The plastic used is so strong that the denture made from it can be very thin, eliminating that heavy, bulky feel which can make wearing dentures unpleasant. The colour, shape and design of flexible dentures mean they blend in well with the natural appearance of the gums, making the denture virtually invisible.
Implant Supported Dentures
Many people with missing teeth struggle to keep their dentures secure (particularly in the lower jaw). This can be associated with the embarrassment of slipping dentures, not being able to eat all food types and the ineffectiveness of denture adhesives. Fortunately, with the use of dental implants, we can stabilise your denture giving you the confidence to wear them effectively without embarrassment. Implant supported dentures can restore proper chewing, allowing a better diet and improved health. They can improve speech, offer improved comfort with less irritation of the gum tissue.
These dentures fit on top of natural teeth, the natural teeth have to be reduced in size so that usually the tooth is smoothed down to the gum level, the denture can then lay on top of the natural tooth root passively, or it can be attached with special attachments such as metal clips or inserts so the denture is more stable.
