Tooth whitening

Many of our patients do have straight, healthy teeth, but have noticed discolouration occurring. This can happen because of age, habits such as smoking, and eating and drinking food that can stain our teeth, such as red wine, tea and curries.

A quick, affordable and effective way to put the shine back into your teeth.

What is tooth whitening treatment?

Tooth whitening treatment does exactly what it says it does - it whitens your teeth. The process uses a safe dental-approved bleach solution that helps to return your teeth to their original colour, removing stains and discolouration.

Although it is a safe method for whitening your teeth, because of the chemicals used, the General Dental Council (GDC) has advised that tooth whitening treatment should only be carried out by a registered dental professional, which is exactly what we are at Queensway Dental.

How effective is tooth whitening treatment?

Tooth whitening can really enhance your smile. The length of time it takes and the success of it does depend on the current colouration of your teeth, but our dentist can assess this and advise you on the best course of tooth whitening treatment.

What's more, tooth whitening treatment can be used in conjunction with other dental treatments, such as crowns, veneers and composite bonding. This means if you're not achieving the desired tooth whitening result on each of your teeth, you could supplement it with additional treatment for an overall naturally beautiful smile.

Can whitening help with white spots on my teeth?

The reason for white spots forming on the teeth is often the onset of caries. Dental fluorosis too can be a reason for the visual damage. Whiteish discolorations are sometimes evident when orthodontic appliance (usually fixed brackets) are removed. The good news is that there is a simple, gentle treatment option with no drilling required.

How does it work?

After preparation with etching gel, a liquid resin (known as icon) is applied and infiltrates the porous dental tissue. The icon infiltrant is then cured with light. Because the treated tooth reflects the light, like the healthy tooth enamel, the treated area visually matches the healthy tooth.

There is usually only one treatment appointment required so it’s a really quick, efficient and gentle treatment.

Depending on the patients age, for the best result your clinician may also recommend a course of tooth whitening for the best possible results.
