Smile update | November 2022

As the dark nights draw in, we look forward to lighting up our patients’ faces by creating their ultimate smile in time for Christmas. Last month we were thrilled to see lots of new patients who took the opportunity to brighten their smiles with our half price tooth whitening offer.

This month we are preparing for the run up to Christmas and will be sharing through our social media channels current patient experiences and stories. If you do not currently follow us, then you can do so on Instagram or Facebook.

We look forward to seeing you soon and in the meantime, take care and stay safe.

Do you think about your teeth/smile every day?

Being unhappy with her smile was something that our lovely patient, Fiona was battling on a daily basis. She decided now was the time to do something about it.

After visiting two other dental practices and being unhappy with her experience, Fiona came to Queensway Dental and hasn’t looked back!

With a treatment plan that included tooth whitening, a digital smile design, gum contouring and zirconia veneers, Fiona’s smile has been transformed!

Now she’s showing off her smile every day!

If now is the time for you to smile again, we offer free video and face to face consultations to get you started!

The airflow master from EMS is a device that uses a fine, flavoured powder with high pressure air and warm water (that alleviates sensitivity) to gently clean the biofilm (plaque) from the teeth. This is known as Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) and best of all it’s a non-invasive and painless treatment, offered by our hygiene and dental therapy team. It’s the future of dental scales and cleans – a modern advancement in dentistry, supported by scientific evidence – and is available at our Billingham, Yarm and Jesmond practices.

In this video we give an insight into how it works, and the steps involved in the identification and removal of biofilm. We have invested in this technology to provide the best treatment for our patients. This service is available at no extra cost to existing Queensway plan members, as part of their routine appointments. If you are a new patient to the practice, please call 01642 554667 and we can advise on costs and appointments.

Mouth Cancer Action Month is a charity campaign which aims to raise awareness of mouth cancer and make a difference by saving thousands of lives through early detection and prevention.

Throughout November, we aim to raise awareness to get more mouth cancers diagnosed at an early stage. By increasing education of the risk factors and signs and symptoms to encourage everyone to discuss these with a dental professional.

In the UK, more than 7,800 people were diagnosed with mouth cancer last year and globally there are in excess of 300,000 new cases every year.

The number of people being diagnosed with mouth cancer has grown by around a third in the last decade and remains one of very few cancers which are predicted to increase further in the coming years.

Although there are risk factors heavily linked to the disease, mouth cancer can affect anyone that’s why it’s so important that we all know what to look out for.

The campaign is all about taking action and promoting the messages:

Don’t leave a mouth ulcer unattended for more than three weeks.

Don’t ignore any unusual lumps or swellings or red and white patches in your mouth.

Early detection could save your life. If you notice any changes in your mouth speak to a dentist or doctor immediately.
