Prosthodontics & Restorative Dentistryin the North East
Specialist prosthodontist care in Sunderland for missing, damaged and worn teeth

At Queensway Dental’s Sunderland Specialist Referral Centre, our specialist prosthodontist provides advanced restorative dentistry treatments for patients across Sunderland and the North East. We care for people with missing, damaged or heavily worn teeth, alongside those who need more complex, full-mouth restorative treatment.
Whether you have been referred by your own dentist or are looking for specialist help yourself, your care begins with a detailed assessment of your dental health, function and individual concerns. Your prosthodontist will explain the available options and plan a carefully staged course of treatment around your needs. Where complex gum problems need treating first, we work closely with our specialist periodontics team.

What is prosthodontics?
Prosthodontics is the area of dentistry focused on restoring and replacing teeth. A prosthodontist has advanced training in planning and managing complex restorative dental cases involving the appearance, function and long-term health of the smile.
Treatment may combine crowns, bridges, dentures and implant-supported restorations, and often includes restoring or replacing older dental work that is failing, worn or no longer comfortable. Every plan is tailored to your clinical needs.
How specialist prosthodontic care may help
No two smiles are the same, but specialist prosthodontic treatment can help in a wide range of situations, from a single stubborn problem to rebuilding a whole smile. Depending on your needs, your prosthodontist may be able to:
- Replace one or many missing teeth
- Rebuild broken, heavily worn or damaged teeth
- Manage a worn bite and changes to how the teeth meet
- Improve the comfort and fit of loose dentures, including implant-supported dentures
- Restore or replace failing crowns, bridges and dental implants
- Plan and coordinate complex full-mouth rehabilitation
- Offer a specialist second opinion on complex restorative treatment
If you are unsure whether specialist care is right for you, a consultation is the best place to start. We will assess your teeth, explain your options clearly and, where helpful, work alongside your own dentist to plan the next steps.

Common questions about prosthodontics
A prosthodontist is a dentist with several years of additional specialist training in restoring and replacing teeth. They focus on more complex cases, including full-mouth rehabilitation, worn bites and failing restorations, and often work alongside your own dentist to plan and deliver your treatment.
Worn teeth can be rebuilt to restore their shape, function and appearance, and to protect them from further damage. Our specialist prosthodontist will assess the cause of the wear, stabilise your bite where needed, and plan restorative dentistry treatment tailored to how much wear is present.
Yes. We help many patients whose dentures no longer fit well or feel secure. Options range from remaking well-fitting conventional dentures to implant-supported dentures that clip firmly in place for greater comfort and confidence when eating and speaking.
We regularly review and restore older dental work that is failing, worn or causing concern, including crowns, bridges and implant-supported teeth. Where an existing implant is involved, we focus on restoring and maintaining it rather than replacing established treatment unnecessarily.
Both are welcome. Many patients are referred by their own dentist, but you can also contact us directly to arrange a consultation. If you have been referred, we keep your dentist informed and return you to their care once your specialist treatment is complete.
Full-mouth rehabilitation is a carefully staged plan to restore the health, function and appearance of the whole smile, often when several teeth are missing, worn or damaged. It may combine crowns, bridges, dentures and implants, sequenced around your needs and comfort.
